Local Lifestyle
Life in Seattle’s northwest epitomizes urbanization with a tinge of small-town character. The most popular neighborhood is Ballard, beloved for its vibrancy and conveniences. Numerous restaurants and bars line the waterfront commercial district, each business within walking distance from the next. With cobbled sidewalks, residents will often be seen power walking in the mornings or kids riding their bikes. With beaches in almost every neighborhood, kayaking and water taxing is the best way to explore all the area has to offer. Many residents own boats and often anchor them at the Shishole Marina, while kids often go shell picking on the beach as the adults soak up the sun.
Dining, Entertainment & Shopping
Art meets coffee at
Milstead and Co, the unique decor just as pleasing as the handcrafted, locally sourced coffee beans used in making their espressos. Start your day here, and head over for brunch or dinner at
Joule, where excellent meals come from the fusion of traditional steakhouse flavors with globally-inspired cooking techniques. Their unique open-kitchen setting gives diners an immersive experience and outlook into how their meals are being prepared.
One of the perks of living in a waterfront city is the abundance of seafood.
Rockcreek Seafood is a dinner and brunch only establishment that serves well-prepared local favorite seafood of crabs, mussels, and oysters. And for diners looking to explore, this restaurant also offers exquisitely prepared tropical seafood menus of Hawaiian Ono and Striped Bass. The Baked Oysters are a best seller. Flavor filled and prepared with fresh ingredients only, be ready for a second helping! Rockcreek's dining loft is a nod to the early cabin-like houses found in Seattle.
Things To Do
The
Fremont Troll is strategically located under the
Fremont Bridge. It was crafted in 1989 in a bid to rehabilitate the area. The Troll can be seen holding a Volkswagen in its clutches. It is quite an attraction despite its image, and tourists can be seen posing for Instagram pictures with it. There are also Troll-inspired collectibles available for sale by the original artists.
The
Fremont Fair is an annual summer festival featuring live music performances, food truck vendors, beer drinking and hotdog eating competitions, face painting, and amazing art displays all through the two day event.
The
Lake Washington Ship Canal runs through Seattle with its historic Hiram M. Chittenden Locks. It's a tourist attraction as it has an underwater observatory, where tourists can see salmon swimming through the lake and even the minute details of yachts passing through.
